The Minor
The Chicanx and Latinx studies minor is an interdisciplinary minor that provides a broad introduction to the histories and cultural artifacts produced by Spanish-speaking communities in the United States. Through a coordinated course of study drawing upon course offerings in the Departments of Critical Gender Studies, Communication, Ethnic Studies, History, Linguistics, Literature, Music, Philosophy, Political Science, Theatre and Dance, Urban Studies and Planning, and Visual Arts, students will gain an understanding of this important segment of the US population.
Requirements
- Completion of seven courses (twenty-eight units), five of which must be upper division.
- Elective courses must be selected from the Chicanx and Latinx studies course offerings.
- There is no language requirement for the CLS minor. Students may take up to ten units of language courses toward the minor if they choose.
- All courses counting toward the minor must be taken for a letter grade.
- Students may take no more than three upper-division courses in any one department.
- Students can only overlap a maximum of two courses (eight units) between their major and minor.
- Maintain 2.0 GPA.
- Students may petition to receive credit for relevant courses not listed in the catalog.
- All study abroad courses must be petitioned.
