The Program
The Academic Internship Program (AIP) offers qualified undergraduate students an opportunity to earn credit for valuable work experience related to academic and career interests. Although most internships are in the San Diego area, AIP is national in scope, including the popular Washington, DC (UCDC) program. Students may secure preapproved internships by applying via the REAL Portal or work with the internship office to develop their own internships.
The program operates all four quarters. The number of units earned corresponds to the number of hours worked, level of internship responsibilities, and depth of the research paper/project. The academic component of the program consists of a final deliverable directed by a faculty adviser. All students earn grades of P/NP.
AIP serves students from all undergraduate colleges and majors. Students interested in AIP must apply one quarter before they intend to enroll in the program. The application and enrollment process are detailed on the AIP website at aip.ucsd.edu.
